Quentin Potter has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2020 Political Courage Test.
No | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Initially, my effort would be to stop the Trump/Republican cuts to Social Security and Medicare. "Expanded" federal funding that is necessary to secure the current benefits under these programs would be among of my top priorities. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? |
Yes | Do you support increasing defense spending?
Defending the nation is a necessary and clear responsibility of the national government. Such spending includes more than military spending. Funds must be directed to assure our ability to act militarily when necessary, but we must also provide resources to defend our country from cyber attacks and other foreign intervention with negative impacts. Funding should support and strengthen diplomatic solutions and support alliances around the globe to minimize the need for unilateral military action. |
Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Unknown Position | Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?

Corporate taxes are currently lower than they have been since the 1930s. We now have wealthy corporations that are paying little if any taxes. We need to limit the number of loopholes and possibly reverse some of the recent tax cuts for corporations in order to make the tax system more equitable. |
Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
We need to carefully look for a balance of carrots and sticks. The possibility of using a "graduated" carbon tax would begin to provide an incentive to meeting emission-reduction goals. Revenue generated could be used to ramp up green energy alternatives, including education and job training initiatives, with some of the funding returned to consumers through either a tax credit or rebate. |
Yes | Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
As an example, enhancing background checks is supported by a majority of Americans, and is something I support. |
No | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? |
Yes | Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes | Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Military force or intervention needs to be a last resort and used only after significant diplomatic and economic measures have failed to work. |
Yes | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
As a general policy, yes. However, tariffs may make sense in some situations, such as, to encourage countries to address carbon emissions. |
Develop and fund an infrastructure program designed to; create good paying jobs, fund projects that are aligned with reducing carbon emissions, invest in job training. This would be funded by closing tax loopholes on wealthy corporations, creating a corporate minimum tax, and/or, developing a carbon tax. Protect the future of Medicare and Social Security. Medicare costs can be reduced by passing legislation that I would support to allow HHS to negotiate drug prices. A payroll tax increase for Medicare for those with wages above $300,000, and for Social Security an increase in the current salary cap, may be necessary. |
